    where it began

Stuart Barr, founder and director of StuartBarr CDR, initially trained in cabinet making. For Stuart, joinery represented precision and attention to detail, characteristics which were to become the cornerstones of his future companies. In 2002, after learning the construction industry from grass roots, Stuart set up his own company. Within a year a contract with the National Trust was secured… which then led to another. Soon the company was on the National Trust top 50 suppliers listing, breaking the ground for larger contracts with the Dorneywood and Chequers Trust, as well as larger private residential clients across the region. Heritage projects, eco-builds, and varied commercial contracts have all been an integral part of the organisation’s growth and diversification. Alongside a passion for quality, they have made StuartBarr CDR the company it is today.

    working together

BarrJoinery (est.2009) and BarrKitchens (est.2012) were born out of the need for tailor made products not available to the standards and quality required by StuartBarr CDR clients. Although separate commercial entities, BarrJoinery and BarrKitchens are available where required to provide seamless support for the complete construction, fit and finish of each project. The fourth company in the Barr Group portfolio is TRAKD, the business management system which underpins the Barr Group companies. TRAKD is now a commercial entity in its own right, supporting other small to medium sized construction businesses and advocated by the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) as an industry benchmark. The Barr Group companies remain strongly linked by the group's shared values.

    what we believe in

StuartBarr CDR believes in excellence of workmanship, training from within and putting the client at the forefront of everything we do. Good internal and external communication and attention to detail are central to our company ethos. The whole StuartBarr CDR team work to the same exacting standards. TRAKD, our FMB endorsed project management system was developed in house. It allows our site managers and teams of skilled tradesmen to work efficiently and effectively, completing projects to client timescales, budgets and satisfaction. We are proud to say that the majority of our new business comes from client, project manager, or architect referrals.

    minimising our impact

StuartBarr CDR aspires to minimise the environmental impact of our work on our customer’s behalf. We assess the environmental and social impact of each project, taking into account waste, recycling, neighbourhood impact and pollution control. We strive to reduce, wherever possible, the consumption of non-renewable raw materials related to both construction and administrative operations. The company consistently raises awareness of environmental issues amongst our workforce through formal training and stringent site standards, including efficient use of energy, water and transportation. StuartBarr CDR offers advice and support on the inclusion of environmental considerations at project design stage.

    nurturing talent

As a building firm our workforce is the lifeblood of our company. We aim to employ and retain the best people, training and promoting from within wherever possible. StuartBarr CDR operates a thriving apprenticeship scheme, which ensures that StuartBarr CDR values and standards are passed on from one generation of skilled workmen to the next. The result is a team who all work to the same exacting standards. Sub-contractors and external suppliers, local wherever possible, are also trusted members of the Barr extended family. The award wining Barr Group apprenticeship scheme has been running for as long as the companies themselves. Director Stuart Barr is currently working in conjunction with the FMB on the Government Trailblazer Scheme, improving UK apprenticeship standards across the industry.
