where it began

StuartBarr CDR was established in 2002 by founder and director Stuart Barr. The company is now collaboratively run by its three directors, Chris Noonan, Stuart Barr and David Noonan and has developed expertise in the areas of heritage, residential, commercial and eco build. Primarily through word of mouth and repeat business, steady organic growth has resulted in an extensive project portfolio, as well as recognition from industry regulatory bodies and the media alike. The belief that “we are only as good as our last job” and an internal mantra that “everything we say and do really matters” has helped to maintain the very highest standards. Values of attention to detail and excellence of workmanship, as well as the organisation’s passion for 'doing things differently' have been cornerstones of the company’s growth and are applied to every project, whatever the size or scope.

working together

As part of the Barr Group, which includes BarrJoinery (est. 2009) BarrKitchens (est.2014) and Barr Baleares (est. 2018), StuartBarr CDR clients benefit from joint sourcing and shared overheads, allowing the company to offer competitive pricing for the highest build quality. Although separate commercial entities, BarrJoinery and BarrKitchens are available to StuartBarr CDR clients, where required, to provide seamless support for the complete construction, fit and finish of each project. The Barr Group companies are underpinned by an in-house business management system, TrakD, which reduces administration costs, ensures transparency of pricing, facilitates document sharing and aids client communications, as well as maximising labour and materials efficiency for each project.

what we believe in

StuartBarr CDR believes in excellence of workmanship, training from within and putting the client at the forefront of everything we do. Good internal and external communication and attention to detail are central to our company ethos. The whole StuartBarr CDR team work to the same exacting standards. TRAKD, our FMB endorsed project management system was developed in house. It allows our site managers and teams of skilled tradesmen to work efficiently and effectively, completing projects to client timescales, budgets and satisfaction. We are proud to say that the majority of our new business comes from client, project manager, or architect referrals.

minimising our impact

StuartBarr CDR aspires to minimise the environmental impact of our work on our customer’s behalf. We assess the environmental and social impact of each project, taking into account waste, recycling, neighbourhood impact and pollution control. We strive to reduce, wherever possible, the consumption of non-renewable raw materials related to both construction and administrative operations. The company consistently raises awareness of environmental issues amongst our workforce through formal training and stringent site standards, including efficient use of energy, water and transportation. StuartBarr CDR offers advice and support on the inclusion of environmental considerations at project design stage.

nurturing talent

As a building firm our workforce is the lifeblood of our company. We aim to employ and retain the best people, training and promoting from within wherever possible. StuartBarr CDR operates a thriving apprenticeship scheme, which ensures that StuartBarr CDR values and standards are passed on from one generation of skilled workmen to the next. The result is a team who all work to the same exacting standards. Sub-contractors and external suppliers, local wherever possible, are also trusted members of the Barr extended family. The award wining Barr Group apprenticeship scheme has been running for as long as the companies themselves. Director Stuart Barr is currently working in conjunction with the FMB on the Government Trailblazer Scheme, improving UK apprenticeship standards across the industry.

making a difference

Much of our work in the community is focused on helping young people to find their way. Amongst other charities, the Barr Group is proud to support RAW Workshop, a social commercial enterprise who provide meaningful work and skills for people who have struggled to find their place in the world. In addition members of the Barr Group organisation work with local secondary schools, attending careers events and focus groups with the aim of providing a ‘real world’ picture of our industry. Further afield the Barr Group have renewed their endeavours on the Thai / Myanmar border where the refugee crisis continues to need infrastructure support for its children's homes and other community support institutions.
