Direct to Client; design and build with a difference … to an exceptional standard.

Alongside a thriving Principal Contractor division, the Barr Group’s ‘Direct to Client’ works remain at the heart of the portfolio. These niche and varied projects range from residential remodels to single-storey extensions and renovations. Examples are wide and varied… a perfectly detailed new entrance lobby, a contemporary glass room extension, a converted outbuilding-annexe, a listed cottage renovation – all with one thing in common - a close, collaborative interactive relationship between StuartBarr CDR contracts manager and client.

The Direct to Client service tend to benefit those clients whose plans and planning permission, if required, are already in place and where the scale is such that third-party project management is not required.  Often with a recommendation or a previous build relationship with the Barr Group, the need for a prolonged tender process is negated. Allowing projects to be specified and costed clearly and quickly and for works to begin within six weeks of the initial brief. DTC projects tend to be between £50,000 and £500,000 in the total contract sum. One of the benefits of this approach is that the client fully understands the costs of each part of the works and, where necessary, can work with our DTC construction director to engineer the build scope and specification to bring it in line with their budget.

Value engineering plays a key role in the success of our Direct to Client projects: delivering a vision to a flexible process and within the budget envelope. Chris Noonan, dedicated DTC Construction Director, works with the client, contract managers, and QS team, to establish the most cost-effective and efficient way to deliver the project vision, often just from preliminary drawings. Budgets can then be fixed prior to the commencement of works and should the client want to add to the brief during the build, variations can be costed and agreed before the work is carried out.

Each DTC project is tailored to suit the client’s aesthetic preferences and modeled to ensure the functionality required to suit their lifestyle. The team consists of highly skilled, fully qualified craftsmen working alongside trusted specialist sub-contractors - part of the Barr Group extended family. As a separate, dedicated division within the Barr Group, the DTC team is able to respond flexibly and nimbly to changing briefs and logistics – getting the right skill balance on-site at the right time for the project in hand.
