In 2018, the Barr Group, harnessing its design-led ethos, melting pot of technical know-how and passions for quality and detail, produced two unique, highly specified barn conversions. Having received industry and design-world acclaim for their structural, visual and sustainable properties*, the Barr Group are delighted to announce the build of two further matchlessly chic and outstandingly sustainable barn conversions, on the Ox-Bucks border.
With full plans, specification and interior design, the Barr Group are inviting enquiries regarding the purchase of the barns. As with all Barr Group builds there is no ‘one way’ of doing things. Vendor proposals will be considered, whether for the plot with plans and permissions or for the full finished package. The essential element is that any build partner will share the Barr Group passion for design-led individuality, quality and attention to detail.
Although similar in style, the barns exhibit their own unique character, with the silhouette of each following the simple form of its previous incarnation. Barn One reflects its preceding concrete skirt and dark ribbed upper and Barn Two, completely encased in a black timber shadow gap clad, reflects its former linear external. The crisp lines of the timber-clad exteriors and provide an impressive introduction to the plot, with a roof parapet discreetly housing the photovoltaic solar panels and rainwater down piping encased in the structure.
Canopied glazed faces to the south side of each barn represent the open ends of the original structures, offering far reaching views of the surrounding agricultural landscape. Large picture windows, skylights, and high-wall glazing slits are all carefully positioned to maximise wonderful views and to bathe the internal spaces in natural light throughout the day.
Barn 1 (above) is a vaulted single storey detached residence, with floor space extending to 2852sq ft. The barn features a feature triple width glazed front entrance, leading to an impressive vaulted lobby. The property comprises of a spacious open plan kitchen/family room, with dramatic full height ceiling. The kitchen area is fitted with inset made to measure cabinetry, walking pantry and integrated appliances, offering the ultimate in culinary comfort. The west wing also houses a media room, utility room and separate WC. The east wing houses four substantial double bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom and countryside views. Underfloor heating throughout is fuelled by air-source heat pumps, providing economical and environmentally responsible heating. Heat recovery and ventilation systems provide clean air throughout the properties and automated climate control enables individual room settings. The barns will be wired for installation of audio-visual and security surveillance system installation and will be equipped with electric charging points for a modern hybrid/electric car. Solar panels and rainwater harvesting systems add to the barns eco-credentials.
The barns are approached via a private driveway, which branches into private landscaped grounds surrounding each property. The fields beyond lead to a charming fishing lake and a wonderful network of country footpaths.
