Size doesn’t matter...

Whilst StuartBarr CDR prides itself on the delivery of large principal contractor builds, the smaller projects remain at the heart of its portfolio. It is these ‘niche’ projects which provide the most rewarding experience for the whole team, including the clients themselves. Ranging from the small but perfectly detailed new entrance lobby to a whole house renovation project, a contemporary glass room, a private art studio, a listed cottage renovation... the examples are wide and varied. The one thing these individual projects have in common is a close, interactive working relationship between builder and client.

The Direct to Client service offered by StuartBarr CDR is aimed at clients who would like to proceed quickly with projects ranging in value from £30,000 to £500,000; who have initial drawings and (where required) planning permission - but who do not require a third-party project management service. Direct to Client (DTC) projects can be specified and costed within a couple of weeks, allowing works to begin within six weeks of the initial brief.

The formula to every successful build, whatever the scope of works, is a shared passion for quality and attention to detail. Each DTC project is tailored to suit the particular client’s preferences and lifestyle as well as their timelines, budgets and logistical constraints. The team consists of highly skilled, fully qualified craftsmen working alongside trusted specialist sub-contractors, also part of the Barr Group extended family. As a separate, dedicated division within the Barr Group, the DTC team are able to respond flexibly and nimbly to changing briefs and logistics – getting the right skills and materials on site at the right time for the project in hand.

Value engineering plays a key role in the success of our Direct to Client projects: delivering a vision flexible and within the budget envelope. Chris Noonan, dedicated DTC Construction Director, works with the client, contract managers, and QS team, to establish the most cost-effective and efficient way to deliver the project vision, often just from preliminary drawings. Budgets can then be fixed prior to the commencement of works and should the client want to add to the brief during the build, variations can be costed and agreed before the work is carried out.

Chris Noonan is available to advise on the best way to proceed with any project - please contact us at Barr HQ if you would like him to get in touch. You may also like to speak with a past client of the DTC team – we can put you in touch with someone who has undertaken a project of a similar scale to the one you are planning. Here is what some of our clients and the building industry regulator have to say:

Anna, DTC project, Dorchester, 2018: “I really couldn’t think of anything the StuartBarr CDR team could have done better. We had a great meeting of minds and the whole team bought into my vision. Our site foreman always knew what would work and I trusted his design advice".

Graham, DTC project, Oxfordshire, 2018: “We found the StuartBarr CDR team professional, hardworking, dedicated and amenable. We wouldn’t hesitate to use StuartBarr CDR again or to recommend them to our friends. If there is a next time we will come to StuartBarr CDR much earlier in the planning process for design as well as build."

Jane DTC project, Buckinghamshire, 2016: “We got the impression that all employees from groundsmen to skilled site carpenters were adhering to a strict code of conduct. We were incredibly impressed with them and delighted with the finished project".

Phil Hodge: Director, Federation of Master Builders, Southern Region: “Time and time again we have been impressed with just how far these builders will go to ensure their client is happy. It is this dedication that we want to celebrate".
