Oxfordshire builders, StuartBarr CDR, have scooped a prestigious Master Builder Award, taking the prize for best Energy Efficient Project in the Federation of Master Builders’ (FMB) Southern Counties region.
Now in its 13th year, the Master Builder Awards continues to be a flagship for high-quality building work. Organised by the Federation of Master Builders (FMB), the awards programme is unique in that any project entered by the builder must be endorsed the customer – giving home owners the opportunity to support those building companies that have delivered exceptional results.
StuartBarr CDR was selected by the region’s judges to win the Energy Efficiency Project Award and will now go through to compete in the national finals for their chance to win the UK category title. The national awards will be presented at a ceremony held at the Intercontinental Park Lane Hotel in London on 15th September 2017, hosted by TV presenter and building enthusiast Nick Knowles.
StuartBarr CDR beat off tough competition for their work in building a sustainable underground house in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The end result of the project was an impossibly light, bright and airy dwelling that is completely invisible from the front, meaning that any views of the historic village, countryside or ancient church are left uninterrupted.
The house is built nine metres underground, which renders it is incredibly heat efficient with Durosol blocks preventing heat loss into the ground and underground pumps efficiently drawing heat from the ground around the dwelling.
Phil Hodge, Director of FM South said, “The Master Builder Awards give the FMB the opportunity to celebrate a job well done and for clients to say thank you to their builders. For the building industry it is an opportunity to celebrate all that is good about small local builders and their importance to the UK economy.
“Time and time again we have been impressed with just how far these builders will go to ensure their client is happy. It is this dedication that we want to celebrate. StuartBarr CDR should feel justly proud of this achievement in winning and we wish the company every success in the national competition.”
Stuart Barr, director of the Barr Group companies attended the FMB southern regional conference this weekend, along with fellow Barr Group directors, Chris Noonan and David Noonan. "We are proud to be members of this prestigious, industry guiding organisation. We are delighted to be recognised by them as leaders in the Eco-build field, which has long been an integral part of our organisation.
